Three students from Al-Hikmat College in Lagos have designed a solar-powered farm robot called Agribot, aimed at helping Nigerian farmers. The team, known as Agritech Warriors, built the robot to perform key farming tasks such as ploughing, sowing, weeding, and spraying.
The invention was showcased at the school's End-of-Session/Prize Giving event on July 29, 2025. Agribot is powered entirely by solar energy, making it useful in rural areas with limited access to fuel or electricity.
Team spokesperson Fareedah Amosuro said the robot was first created for the CodeAvour AI and Coding Competition using Pictoblocks. Later, they added new features like soil moisture and temperature monitoring.
Controlled through a tablet, Agribot is also designed to track sunlight for better charging. The team's aim is to promote smart farming and inspire more youths to embrace agriculture.
The team members — Erinfolami Fuad, Umar Ibrahim, and Fareedah Amosuro — hope to further develop Agribot into a fully functional machine. However, they are currently seeking funding support.
School Director, Alhaja Aminat Abdulkareem, praised their efforts and assured continued support for student-led innovations in science and technology.
