Title: US Congressman Calls for Nigeria–America Alliance to Protect Christians
Post by: Abdullah on Nov 09, 2025, 10:42 AM
A senior member of the United States Congress, Riley Moore, has urged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen security cooperation with Washington in response to the increasing attacks on Christian communities across Nigeria. His remarks followed renewed U.S. interest in supporting regional peace and stability amid reports of escalating religious violence.

During a recent interview, Moore emphasized that former U.S. President Donald Trump remains "very serious" about addressing what he described as the ongoing "slaughter of Christians" in Nigeria. He disclosed that discussions within the U.S. government are exploring both diplomatic and defensive strategies to assist Nigeria in curbing extremist activities and protecting civilian populations.

According to Moore, this moment offers a unique opportunity for Nigeria to deepen its relationship with the United States. He stressed that enhanced cooperation could help strengthen Nigeria's counterterrorism capacity, promote intelligence sharing, and improve protection for vulnerable communities, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and banditry.

The lawmaker warned that while diplomacy remains the preferred path, Washington might not completely rule out "military options" should the violence persist. "This administration is ready to act decisively if peace efforts fail," he stated, hinting at a tougher American stance on religious persecution worldwide.

Trump's recent decision to re-designate Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern" underlines the growing international alarm. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that "Christianity faces an existential threat in Nigeria," urging immediate government response.

Religious leaders, including Pastor E.A. Adeboye, have since appealed for calm and called on President Tinubu to pursue a diplomatic resolution. Many observers believe a balanced, justice-driven approach is vital to prevent external interference and to safeguard Nigeria's multi-faith harmony.
