During a pivotal meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the urgent necessity of ending the ongoing Gaza conflict. Speaking directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sheikh Abdullah called for immediate steps toward halting the violence, highlighting the devastating toll the war continues to take on civilian lives. He reiterated that achieving a permanent and sustainable ceasefire is crucial not only to stop further bloodshed but also to pave the way for lasting peace in the region. The minister underscored the importance of international cooperation in resolving the crisis and emphasized that the current situation in Gaza demands swift and decisive diplomatic action to protect vulnerable populations.
Sheikh Abdullah drew attention to the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, describing them as dire and unacceptable. He urged the global community to intensify efforts to guarantee the continuous and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, ensuring that essential supplies reach those most affected by the conflict without obstruction.
Reaffirming the UAE's long-standing position, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted his country's unwavering commitment to supporting peace initiatives based on the two-state solution. He stressed that a just and comprehensive resolution, which meets the legitimate aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis, remains the most viable path toward enduring stability in the Middle East.
The UAE's top diplomat also expressed strong support for international efforts aimed at securing the release of hostages and detainees. He called for united global action against all forms of extremism and terrorism, which continue to threaten regional and global security.
The high-level meeting, also attended by senior UAE officials, marked Netanyahu's first engagement with an Arab leader since Israel's controversial September 9 strike in Qatar — an action the UAE publicly condemned.
