According to CNN, President Trump firmly rejected the two-state solution as a pathway to peace in Gaza, arguing that such an approach would effectively reward Hamas for its actions. During the bilateral meeting, Trump began by commending Macron for his diplomatic influence, crediting the French leader with helping to prevent major global conflicts. "Emmanuel has actually helped me with a couple of the wars," Trump remarked. Macron had earlier suggested that if Trump wanted a Nobel Peace Prize, he should work towards ending the Gaza war.
When asked again about Palestinian statehood, Trump maintained his strong opposition, describing the idea as a "gift to Hamas." He stressed that the events of October 7, 2023 — the date of a brutal Hamas-led attack on Israel — must never be forgotten. "It was one of the most savage days in the history of the world," he said, emphasising the need to secure the release of hostages.

He argued that recognising a Palestinian state is not an endorsement of Hamas' actions but a necessary step towards achieving long-term peace. According to Macron, acknowledgment of Palestinian statehood can coexist with condemnation of terrorism.
