Israeli forces say they found a secret tunnel under a hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, where top Hamas leaders were hiding. The Israeli army reported that the body of Mohammed Sinwar, a senior Hamas military figure, was discovered inside the tunnel. He was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the October 2023 attack on Israel.
The body of another Hamas commander, Mohammad Shabana, was also found at the same site. Israeli officials claim these leaders were hiding beneath the European Hospital, using civilian areas as cover. They say this is further proof of Hamas using hospitals and civilians as shields.
Israeli military showed reporters the narrow, hidden tunnel beneath the emergency room. Inside, they recovered weapons, cash, documents, and ammunition, which are now being analyzed.
Israel says the tunnel was part of a command center for Hamas. Hamas has not commented.
The military claims it carefully planned the mission to avoid damaging the hospital. Despite these efforts, Gaza remains devastated. Buildings are in ruins, and residents face severe food shortages.
More than 54,000 Palestinians have reportedly died, and the UN warns millions are at risk of famine. The war continues with no clear end in sight.
