Nigeria and the State of Israel have renewed their commitment to work closely on major security issues, especially in the fight against terrorism. The agreement was made public in a joint communiqué signed by Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Israel's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel-Harpaz, after a high-level meeting in Abuja.

The talks reflected the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries, focusing on areas like intelligence gathering, information sharing, security financing, and specialised training. Both sides agreed that global security challenges, especially terrorism, require united international efforts and strong cooperation between nations.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed practical steps to boost intelligence exchange and improve systems for tracking and stopping terror financing. They also highlighted the importance of advanced training for security personnel to improve preparedness against modern threats.

In addition to security matters, the discussions explored cooperation in technology and innovation, especially for border management. Other areas included capacity building, cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, agricultural development, and improvements in consular and immigration services.

Both nations pledged to create more opportunities for mutual learning through exchange programmes and study tours. They also agreed to set up a stronger bilateral framework to ensure regular dialogue and follow-up on agreed initiatives.

The meeting also included a technical session co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa from Nigeria and Ambassador Sharon Bar-Li from Israel, where experts from both sides worked on turning the agreements into practical action plans.
