Title: Kremlin backs US–Iran Nuclear Talks To Avoid Potential Conflict
Post by: Suyuti1 on Apr 08, 2025, 07:12 PM
The Kremlin has voiced its support for ongoing efforts to hold both direct and indirect talks between Iran and the United States concerning Iran's nuclear program. Moscow sees these discussions as a vital opportunity to reduce tensions and foster a more stable relationship between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized Russia's preference for a peaceful and diplomatic approach. He reiterated that Moscow remains committed to supporting dialogue aimed at resolving international disputes through political means rather than conflict.

Peskov specifically acknowledged that planned discussions in Oman—whether through direct or mediated channels—are a positive development. He stated, "We know that certain contacts, direct and indirect, are planned in Oman. And, of course, this can only be welcomed, because it may lead to a de-escalation of tensions around Iran."

According to Iranian state media, these US–Iran talks are scheduled to take place on April 12 in Oman. While the exact format of the talks has been debated, the location and timing have now been confirmed by official Iranian sources.

Although former US President Donald Trump had previously indicated that direct negotiations were imminent, Iran's foreign minister countered that the upcoming talks would be indirect. The Iranian side has clarified that communication will occur via intermediaries rather than face-to-face engagement.

Despite the back-and-forth over the nature of the talks, Trump had consistently expressed a desire to reach an agreement with Iran over its nuclear activities, while also threatening military consequences if diplomacy failed. Meanwhile, since Russia's 2022 intervention in Ukraine, Moscow and Tehran have strengthened their military and diplomatic ties, with Russia even employing Iranian-made drones in Ukraine. Russia has also offered to mediate between Iran and the US in hopes of facilitating a peaceful resolution.
