A British surgeon, Professor Nick Maynard, has revealed a disturbing trend in Gaza: Israeli soldiers are reportedly targeting children at aid distribution centers. He described a chilling pattern of injuries among young casualties.
Working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Professor Maynard observed "clear patterns of injury" in victims. These patterns suggest a deliberate strategy, with different body parts being targeted on different days.
He told BBC Radio 4's "Today" program that on some days, all gunshot wounds were abdominal, while on others, they were exclusively to the head, neck, or limbs. This led him to believe it's "almost as if a game is being played."
The victims, often teenage boys, are being shot at what Maynard calls "death traps": aid distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. These locations are reportedly manned by private contractors and Israeli soldiers.
Since May, the UN reports at least 875 Palestinians seeking food have been killed by live fire at these centers. Malnutrition is also severely hindering patients' recovery, leading to further deaths.
Other medics in Gaza have corroborated these reports, describing similar patterns of gunshot wounds at GHF centers. This consistent testimony paints a grim picture of the ongoing violence.
