The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed a successful targeted airstrike in Gaza City, eliminating Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, a senior Hamas commander. The IDF identifies Al-Issa as a founding member of Hamas's military wing and a pivotal figure in planning the October 7 massacre.
Al-Issa was "eliminated" during an operation in Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood. According to the IDF, he was responsible for Hamas's force build-up, training, and the orchestration of the October 7 attack, which resulted in 1,163 Israeli and foreign casualties.
His role as Head of Combat Support also involved advancing aerial and naval attacks against Israeli targets, making his elimination a significant blow to Hamas's operational capabilities.
The IDF affirmed its ongoing commitment to neutralize all individuals involved in the October 7 events, stating on X, "The IDF & [Israel Security Agency] will continue to locate and eliminate all terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre."
Palestinian reports, though unconfirmed by independent sources, suggest Al-Issa was killed alongside his wife and grandson during the strike. The IDF later officially confirmed Al-Issa's death.
This operation underscores Israel's continued efforts to dismantle Hamas's military infrastructure and target key leaders deemed responsible for the October 7 assault.
