A recent operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) has led to the arrest of 10 suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP members in Ilesa, Osun State. The suspects were apprehended at an old bungalow building near St. Mary Catholic Church in the Ilesa-East Local Government Area.

The raid occurred on December 16, 2024, around 1 am, and was executed by approximately 30 DSS operatives. News of the arrest became public on January 10, when the DSS requested a court order to detain the suspects for 60 days.

The suspects have been identified as Adamu Abubakar, Babagana Bashuli, Muhammed Adam, and seven others. According to the DSS, the suspects were caught while receiving training on explosive manufacturing and detonation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group.

The operation lasted 90 days and involved two teams from the DSS headquarters, with the first team arriving in late September and the second in mid-November 2024.

A recent operation in Ilesa, Osun, successfully apprehended ISWAP suspects without any gunfire, ensuring the mission remained under wraps. Undercover agents had been tracking the suspects since September 2024, gathering intel on their activities and location.

Following a 30-day surveillance period, a tactical team arrested the suspects, seizing ISWAP materials and bomb-making equipment ยน. The operation was carried out by personnel from outside Osun, with most team members departing immediately after the arrest.

The successful operation was preceded by the transfer of over 150 personnel from Osun to northern states, including Benue, Jigawa, and Bauchi.
