The United States reportedly couldn't reach Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei just before launching airstrikes. This happened in the critical hours leading up to the military operation.
This lack of contact occurred right before Saturday's U.S. military action. President Donald Trump later stated these strikes caused "monumental damage" to Iran's nuclear facilities.
On Sunday, President Trump again highlighted the strikes' impact on Truth Social. He pointed to new satellite images of the targeted nuclear sites as proof.
The satellite photos, especially of the Fordow nuclear facility, reveal significant surface damage. Fordow, built deep within a mountain for protection, was hit by GBU-57 "bunker buster" bombs, made to penetrate tough underground targets.
U.S. officials, as reported by The New York Times, mentioned the strikes flattened some surrounding areas. However, it's still uncertain if the enriched uranium moved between sites recently was destroyed.
This event underscores the tensions and communication challenges in international diplomacy, especially during critical military operations.
