The Muslim community of Aran-Orin recently celebrated ten early converts. These individuals endured severe persecution to establish Islam in their once traditional town. The event, held on June 7, 2025, aimed to raise funds for the reconstruction of the central mosque and drew descendants of the honourees, scholars, and community leaders.

Aran-Orin, a quiet town in Kwara State, is now known for its vibrant Islamic identity. However, this transformation was challenging, shaped by the courage and resilience of those who championed Islam when it was not accepted. They faced hostility, social exclusion, and spiritual tests, yet remained steadfast.

Among those honored was Imam Salaudeen Ayinde Bankole, the town's first Chief Imam. He bravely defied authority to protect his community, established the first Arabic school, and faced personal trials including opposition to his marriages and the destruction of his farms. He famously declared the end of traditional deity worship in Aran-Orin.

Another significant figure was Alhaji Yusuf Onifade Bamigboye, the first Balogun Adinni. He constructed the town's second mosque and ensured prayer spots in remote settlements. His family continues his legacy through mosque renovations. Mallam Bello Olanipekun, the first Seriki Adinni, secured land for the central mosque and burial ground, promoting Islamic education.

Mallam Jimoh Abogunrin Bello Arowomonle embraced Islam in 1926, influencing his entire compound to convert. He bravely faced traditionalist opposition, winning a landmark court case that strengthened the Muslim community. He facilitated the first central mosque and sponsored the Chief Imam's studies.

Other pioneers include Alhaji AbdusSalami Olajide Awayewaserere, a courageous defender of faith and generous host; Alhaji Ismail Oyeyipo Olorungbebe, a torchbearer of knowledge and leader of the Young Muslim Association of Nigeria (YMAN); Chief Raji Adeoti Afolayan, who defended Muslim youth and established an independent Islamic school; and philanthropists Alhaji AbdulAzeez Adefila Ajiboye and Alhaji Hamza Abidoye Ajiboye. Alhaji Muhammad Raji Ajamu Olaoye served as the community's first Ladani and treasurer. These individuals collectively forged a lasting legacy of faith and service in Aran-Orin.
