Thousands of protesters across the United States took to the streets Saturday. These "No Kings" demonstrations targeted President Donald Trump's immigration policies and a controversial military parade in Washington, D.C.

Organized across major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Houston, and Los Angeles, the movement denounced what organizers called the president's "increasing authoritarianism" and contentious deportation raids.

In Philadelphia's Love Park, demonstrators waved American flags. A 61-year-old nurse, Karen Van Trieste, stated, "I just feel like we need to defend our democracy," citing Trump's cuts to public health agencies.

Los Angeles saw significant turnout and clashes near the Federal Building. Protesters confronted National Guard troops, leading to the use of tear gas.

Jose Azetcla of the Brown Berets civil rights group asserted, "It's not harsh, it's evil. You don't separate families," reflecting widespread anger over family separations.

Despite skirmishes, hundreds marched peacefully. The protests followed federal deployment of the National Guard for deportation operations, a move opposed by California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The military parade in Washington, D.C., marking the US Army's 250th anniversary, drew criticism as an "expensive vanity project." It reportedly cost between $25 million and $45 million.

President Trump, saluting troops, warned that any protests during the parade would be met with "heavy force." Despite his warning and wet weather, demonstrations continued nationwide.
