The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has called on President Bola Tinubu, state governors, and political leaders to listen to the concerns of Nigerians with compassion rather than respond with force. Speaking in Abuja during the launch of NASFAT's history book to mark its 30th anniversary, he cautioned against "beating Nigerians with koboko" whenever they express frustration over national issues.
He stressed that leaders must extend a gentle hand, offer reassurance, and give citizens hope for a better future. According to the Sultan, governance must be rooted in justice, as injustice weakens the foundation of any society. He emphasized that justice is more important than political loyalty or personal interests.
The Sultan expressed concern about the declining quality of education among Nigerian youths, urging renewed investment in human capital development. He called for leaders to act like caring fathers, prioritizing fairness and truth in every decision. "Conscience is an open wound; only truth can heal it," he stated.
He encouraged Nigerians to replace curses with prayers for their leaders, noting that positive leadership benefits everyone. He reminded citizens that both leaders and followers will give an account of their actions before Almighty Allah.
The Sultan also acknowledged current economic hardship but urged perseverance, saying tough times can be overcome with faith, unity, and resilience. He called for trust in Allah's wisdom and provision.
Concluding his message, he urged Nigerians to seek solutions through justice, prayer, and sincere leadership, believing that better days will come with divine guidance.
