Saudi Arabia has welcomed the recent announcements by Canada and Malta to recognize the State of Palestine. Both countries plan to formalize this recognition during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.
The decision followed a high-level conference in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, focused on advancing the two-state solution as a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the positive moves by Canada and Malta, describing them as important steps that support peace and reduce the long-standing suffering of the Palestinian people.
Portugal also signaled its support. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said the country's government will consult with political leaders and the president on officially recognizing Palestine.
Saudi Arabia urged more nations to take serious steps in support of peace and Palestinian statehood through diplomatic channels.
Other countries backing the peace declaration include Australia, France, Spain, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, Finland, and Luxembourg.
