Thousands of Nigerian Muslims gathered in Lagos on September 5, 2025, for the annual Aqsa Day, organised by Muslim Awareness International (MAI). The event, themed "Stop Gaza Genocide," combined Friday prayers, lectures, and a peaceful solidarity march for Palestine.

In his sermon, Imam Dr. Abdullahi Shuaib described Israel's attacks on Gaza as a genocidal campaign. He urged Muslims not to remain silent, stressing that advocacy and truth were powerful weapons. He also criticised global powers and the United Nations for failing to protect the oppressed.

Mallam Abdul Waheed Atoyebi, MAI Director, highlighted the heavy toll of the war, with more than 60,000 killed and thousands injured since October 2023. He demanded global recognition of Palestine, sanctions on Israel, and stronger Nigerian security against foreign influence.

Other speakers, including Comrade Abdul Shakur Yekini, warned the Nigerian government against military cooperation with Israel. They argued that Nigeria must not engage with a regime accused of genocide unless justice and peace are restored.

The rally drew thousands into the streets waving Palestinian and Nigerian flags. Protesters carried placards with messages such as "Free Palestine" and "End the Killing of Children." The peaceful chants reflected unity, resistance, and unwavering support for Gaza.

Concluding the event, scholars and participants prayed for the liberation of Masjid Al-Aqsa and victory for Palestinians. For many, Aqsa Day 2025 was more than commemoration — it was a bold statement of faith, justice, and collective hope for freedom.
