Title: MURIC Defends JAMB Registrar Oloyede Amidst Resignation Demands
Post by: Suyuti1 on May 24, 2025, 08:20 AM
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has vehemently condemned calls for the resignation of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following reported glitches during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This comes after the South East caucus of the House of Representatives and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) branch, demanded his exit.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC's Executive Director, dismissed these demands as "callous, ridiculous, and unpatriotic," attributing them to "parochial and tribal sentiments" rather than critical analysis. He emphasized that such reactions ignore Oloyede's groundbreaking achievements in transforming JAMB.

MURIC highlighted Oloyede's unparalleled financial reforms at JAMB. The organization pointed out that under his leadership, JAMB has remitted over N50 billion to the Federal Government in the past seven years, a stark contrast to the mere N52 million remitted in the preceding four decades. Notable remittances include N3.51 billion in 2021, over N2 billion in 2023, and N6 billion in 2024.

Akintola questioned the motives behind the calls for resignation, asking, "Why does the South East desire to kill the goose that lays the golden egg?" He asserted that attempts to remove Oloyede are an "attempt to demonise transparency while idolising corruption" and "sacrifice excellence on the altar of mediocrity."

MURIC urged Professor Oloyede to disregard his detractors, whom they labelled "academic charlatans, political shenanigans, and ethnic demagogues." The Islamic rights group encouraged him to continue his transformative work, stating, "Resignation will send the wrong signal to good Nigerians who consider you their model." This unwavering support underscores Oloyede's perceived integrity and effectiveness in public service.
