Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly rejected and mocked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent offer to assist with Iran's water crisis. Speaking on Wednesday, Pezeshkian dismissed the proposal as insincere and politically motivated.
Posting on X, the Iranian leader accused Israel of hypocrisy, pointing to its long-standing restrictions on Palestinian access to basic resources. He stated that a regime which denies Palestinians access to clean water and food cannot be trusted to offer genuine help to others.
Pezeshkian emphasized that Israel's claim to provide water to Iran was nothing more than "a mirage." He argued that such offers are empty gestures aimed at creating false narratives rather than providing real humanitarian aid.
During a Cabinet meeting in Tehran, Pezeshkian went further, accusing Israel of having a deceptive outward image while carrying out oppressive policies. He warned that those pretending compassion for the Iranian people should first address their own record of human rights abuses.
The president highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, especially the plight of children. He described how residents face severe shortages of food, medicine, and potable water as a result of Israel's ongoing blockade.
Pezeshkian concluded by calling on the international community to focus on ending the suffering of Gaza's defenceless people before entertaining offers from Israel that, in his view, are politically motivated rather than genuinely humanitarian.
