Title: Table Manners and Eating Etiquette in Islam
Post by: Suyuti1 on Jun 07, 2025, 02:50 PM
Eating in Islam is not just about filling the stomach — it is an act of worship if done with gratitude and proper manners. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his followers to eat with humility, cleanliness, and remembrance of Allah.

Before eating, say:

"In the Name of Allah."

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"O young boy! Mention the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is directly in front of you."
— Sahih al-Bukhari (5376), Sahih Muslim (2022)

After eating, say:

"All praise is due to Allah, Who fed me this and provided it for me without any might nor power from myself."

Allah reminds us:

"Eat from the good things We have provided for you..."
— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:172)

The Prophet ﷺ never criticized food and would eat with others, showing simplicity and generosity. The Sahaba would share meals and eat with thankfulness.

Clean hands, no waste, and avoiding excess are signs of true adab. Good table manners reflect gratitude, discipline, and love for the Sunnah.
