The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of eight Muslim travelers in an ambush on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Mangun village, Plateau State. MPAC's Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, stated that a passenger bus carrying 28 Muslim individuals, predominantly of Hausa ethnicity, was attacked by suspected local youths.
This unprovoked assault resulted in eight fatalities, six injuries (one critical), and four missing persons. MPAC denounced the incident as a "gross violation of the victims' rights to life and movement," describing it as a "painful reminder of the growing climate of impunity, ethnic profiling, and targeted violence against Muslims in parts of Nigeria."
MPAC issued a stark warning against the normalization of religiously motivated violence. They stressed that "The deliberate targeting of civilians—solely based on their religious identity—is a dangerous trend that must not be tolerated or normalized in any society."
The Centre is calling for decisive action from the Federal Government, Plateau State Government, and all relevant security agencies. MPAC insists that "The perpetrators of this atrocity must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law."
Criticizing the government's perceived failure to protect its citizens, MPAC stated that this inaction "threatens national unity, peace, and stability." They urged community leaders and security stakeholders to collaborate to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities.
MPAC also appealed for immediate efforts to locate the missing and provide support to victims' families. They urged media outlets to report the incident with "objectivity and fairness," cautioning that biased reporting "only serve to embolden the aggressors and silence the victims."
