Title: Gaza Strike Kills Journalist at Popular Seaside Cafe
Post by: Abdulrahmon Mubarak on Jul 02, 2025, 07:18 AM
An Israeli strike on a seaside cafe in Gaza tragically killed Palestinian photojournalist Ismail Abu Hatab and at least 29 others. The popular Al-Baqa Cafe was a hub for journalists, activists, and remote workers seeking internet access.

Ismail Abu Hatab, 33, was well-known for his powerful photo exhibitions abroad that showcased the devastating realities of life in Gaza. His work aimed to bring international attention to the humanitarian situation.

Among the other casualties was Frans Alsalmi, a digital artist from Gaza. Additionally, prominent Palestinian journalist Bayan Abu Sultan was reported among dozens injured in the same devastating attack.

Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK, condemned the incident, stating that "the erasure of Palestinian journalists and influencers continues unabated." He affirmed that their work would forever bear witness to the events.

The Government Media Office in Gaza confirmed that Abu Hatab's death brings the total number of journalists killed since October 7 to 228. They strongly condemned what they called the "systematic assassination of Palestinian journalists in Gaza."

The Gaza Media Office urged international journalist federations and media organizations to demand accountability for the targeting of Palestinian journalists. The Israel Defense Forces told CNN the strike targeted "Hamas terrorists," claiming steps were taken to avoid civilian harm.
