Detectives in Nairobi have successfully carried out an operation that led to the arrest of two women accused of being in possession of a huge amount of fake United States dollars. The operation was spearheaded by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi regional office.

According to the DCI, the arrest followed credible intelligence that pointed investigators to suspicious activities in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi. Acting swiftly, the detectives launched a well-coordinated mission that ended with the capture of the suspects.

The two women have been identified as Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi. During the search, officers discovered multiple bundles of fake $100 notes hidden in a handbag, indicating an attempt to smuggle large amounts of counterfeit currency.

When the seized notes were taken to the DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters for counting and verification, detectives confirmed the total amount to be USD 560,000. This amount is approximately Ksh 70 million, a shocking figure that demonstrates the scale of the illegal operation.

The DCI stated that both suspects are currently being held in custody as investigations continue. Officers are also working to uncover whether the two women are linked to a larger network involved in the distribution of counterfeit foreign currency in Kenya.

Authorities have assured the public that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are finalized. This arrest highlights the DCI's continued commitment to fighting financial crimes and protecting the economy from counterfeit money operations.
