Tragedy struck in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, when suspected bandits killed a respected businessman, Alhaji Sani Sabo. The attack, which happened late Sunday evening, left the community in shock and mourning.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived at about 9:20 p.m. and shot Alhaji Sani at close range. The attackers tried to escape after the shooting, but the residents quickly mobilized in anger and fear. In the confrontation that followed, one of the bandits was lynched while the others fled.

Alhaji Sani was widely known not only for his business success but also for his generosity. Community members described him as a philanthropist who supported the less privileged and contributed to the welfare of the poor. His sudden death has left many devastated.

A close associate of the late businessman confirmed the incident, explaining how deeply the loss has affected the people of Lafia. "He was like a brother to me. He helped countless people. Today, his house is full of mourners. His death is a big loss to everyone," the source said.

Reports indicate that Alhaji Sani's burial was scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., in line with Islamic tradition. Residents gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to the man they saw as a pillar of support.

As of the time of writing, neither the Nasarawa State government nor security authorities have released an official statement. However, the killing has raised concerns over rising insecurity in Lafia and across Nasarawa State.
