The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has condemned Israel's recent airstrike on Qatar, describing it as a violation of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. His statement has fueled international debate over the attack, which has raised concerns about rising instability in the Middle East.

The airstrike reportedly targeted senior Hamas officials in Doha, with Israeli forces bombing a residential neighborhood. The strike occurred while Qatar was actively mediating peace negotiations between Hamas, Israel, and the United States. According to reports, at least six people were killed, including a Qatari security officer.

Qatar quickly denounced the assault as a criminal act and a direct threat to its national security. Officials in Doha warned that such actions could undermine ongoing peace efforts and trigger wider regional consequences if left unchecked.

Guterres emphasized the importance of diplomacy and a permanent ceasefire, calling on all parties to step back from escalations. He stressed that the focus must remain on stopping violence, not expanding it further. His remarks highlighted the urgency of stabilizing diplomatic channels already strained by years of conflict.

On his official X account, Guterres praised Qatar's role in facilitating hostage negotiations and ceasefire efforts. He wrote that the Israeli airstrike not only endangered lives but also jeopardized progress towards long-term peace in Gaza and beyond.

Meanwhile, Hamas confirmed that its leadership survived the strike, but the incident has added new complications to ongoing talks. Regional observers fear the attack could derail peace proposals backed by the United States.
