The United Kingdom has confirmed plans to officially recognise the State of Palestine before the next general election in 2029. This major policy direction was shared by Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds during an interview with Sky News. He said the move will happen within the current parliamentary term if it supports peace efforts.

Reynolds stressed that recognition must be more than just a political gesture. "We can only do this once," he explained. He warned that if the action is taken without serious impact on ending the conflict, it could damage future peace attempts.

The ongoing crisis in Gaza is also influencing the UK's stance. Reynolds said the government cannot afford to wait while people suffer. Humanitarian aid, like airdrops, has become urgent. "We've got to do something," he insisted, highlighting the scale of the tragedy.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces growing pressure from top officials within his own party. Several ministers and lawmakers are pushing for immediate recognition of Palestinian statehood, especially as global attention on the issue increases.

The UK Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee recently urged the government to act "boldly and bravely" by recognising Palestine. Chairperson Emily Thornberry said the British public is increasingly frustrated with the government's slow response to international justice.

In a strong show of support, over 200 MPs signed a cross-party letter urging the Prime Minister to take immediate steps toward recognising the Palestinian state and supporting a fair two-state solution.
