Turkey has again voiced serious concerns about the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) operating in Nigeria. Turkish Ambassador-designate, Mehmet Poroy, recently stated that FETO poses a significant threat to Nigeria's national security. This warning was issued during an event commemorating Turkey's Democracy and National Unity Day, marking the 2016 coup attempt.

The July 15, 2016, coup in Turkey, blamed on FETO and its alleged leader Fethullah Gülen, was thwarted by public resistance. However, Ambassador Poroy emphasized that the FETO threat persists globally, with ongoing arrests in Turkey. He cautioned that the group's presence endangers any country where it operates.

Ambassador Poroy highlighted FETO's continued activities in Nigeria, particularly within the education and healthcare sectors. He urged Nigerian authorities to remain vigilant, consistently informing them about the organization's dangerous nature and its potential for infiltration.

Turkish authorities, collaborating with international partners, have successfully dismantled many FETO networks worldwide. Schools and institutions previously controlled by the group have been transferred to Turkish government agencies abroad.

Despite these efforts, FETO continues to operate disguised as humanitarian, educational, or interfaith initiatives. Ambassador Poroy warned that behind this facade lies an organization aiming to infiltrate host countries' political and bureaucratic systems.

The Gülen movement, or Hizmet, founded in the 1950s, denies involvement in the 2016 coup and rejects the terrorist label. However, several international bodies, including the OIC and GCC, have formally designated FETO as a terrorist organization, aligning with Turkey's stance.
