US President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, visited Israel to help end the deepening crisis in Gaza. The territory has faced almost 22 months of war, food shortages, and international concern.

Witkoff met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after arrival. Reports suggest he may also visit a US-funded group delivering food inside Gaza.

Tensions soared after 58 Palestinians were killed Wednesday when Israeli troops opened fire on a crowd near an aid truck. The military claimed they only fired warning shots.

An AFP journalist reported seeing bullet-filled bodies at Al-Shifa Hospital. A victim's relative said panic began after food thieves triggered chaos.

Witkoff is leading US talks with Israel and Hamas, though negotiations broke down last week. International pressure is growing for a ceasefire.

Canada, France, and Britain are now pushing for Palestinian statehood. Trump blamed Hamas for the crisis but admitted Gaza faces "real starvation."
