Somalia witnessed rare and vibrant celebrations as thousands of people gathered in Mogadishu to mark Mawlid al-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The government declared the day a national holiday, giving both public and private sector workers the opportunity to participate in the religious events.

The streets of the capital overflowed with worshippers, many of them dressed in white and waving green flags. Qur'an recitations, religious chants, and devotional songs echoed throughout Mogadishu as crowds marched peacefully in honor of the Prophet's birth. This year's observance was particularly large, thanks to improved security conditions across the city.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs confirmed that the holiday was designed to encourage nationwide participation. Religious leaders and scholars delivered sermons through loudspeakers, reminding the faithful of the Prophet's teachings and urging Muslims to strengthen their relationship with Allah.

For many Somalis, the celebration carried deep personal meaning. Young people live-streamed the processions to friends abroad, while women paraded through the streets with banners praising the Prophet. Participants expressed joy, saying the day reflects both spiritual devotion and community unity.

Security forces maintained a watchful presence around the gatherings, ensuring safety as people filled open spaces around mosques. Scholars like Sheikh Abati Abba Nur emphasized the importance of remembering the Prophet's example and urged Muslims to remain steadfast in faith and piety.

In the past, such gatherings were discouraged due to terrorist threats from Al Shabab. However, with the group pushed out of Mogadishu, Mawlid celebrations have returned stronger each year, symbolizing hope, unity, and resilience for Somali Muslims.
