Texas Governor Ted Abbott has announced a complete ban on the enforcement of Sharia Law and the establishment of what some protesters called "Sharia cities" in the state. The decision comes after a viral video showed an imam urging local shopkeepers not to sell alcohol, pork, or lottery tickets in line with Islamic practices.

In a strong statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Governor Abbott said he had already signed laws prohibiting Sharia Law and Sharia-based compounds in Texas. He emphasized that no individual or business should feel threatened by groups pushing religious rules outside the nation's legal framework.

Abbott added that if anyone attempts to impose Sharia compliance in communities or businesses, they should be reported immediately to local law enforcement or the Texas Department of Public Safety. His statement was a direct response to the viral protest video that drew mixed reactions across the country.

The video captured a Houston-area imam addressing shop owners with a megaphone. He urged them to stop selling products forbidden in Islam, stating that Muslims should "love what Allah loves and hate what Allah hates." The cleric also warned that his group planned to visit local shops that were "ignoring the religion of Islam."

The governor's declaration has sparked heated debates across political and religious lines. Supporters argue that it protects state law and individual freedoms, while critics believe the move unfairly targets Muslim communities and their cultural practices.

As discussions continue, Texas now stands firm on rejecting the recognition of Sharia Law in any form within the state's jurisdiction.
