A state funeral is underway in Tehran for approximately 60 individuals, including high-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists, who were killed in recent Israeli attacks. Thousands have gathered in the capital to participate in the solemn ceremony.

State television broadcast footage showing mourners dressed in black, waving Iranian flags and holding images of the fallen. Among those honored are the slain head of the Revolutionary Guard and other top commanders and nuclear scientists, underscoring their significant roles.

The funeral follows a 12-day conflict with Israel, which commenced on June 13. The United States also participated, carrying out strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites last weekend, joining its ally in the bombardments.

Both Israel and Iran have claimed victory in the war that concluded with a ceasefire on Tuesday. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei downplayed US strikes, rejecting claims of a multi-decade setback to Iran's nuclear program.

The coffins of General Hossein Salami, the Guard's chief, and General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the ballistic missile program, were transported along Azadi Street. Crowds passionately chanted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," demonstrating strong anti-Western sentiment.

Salami and Hajizadeh were among the first casualties, killed on the initial day of the war, which Israel stated was aimed at destroying Iran's nuclear capabilities. This public mourning event, the first since the ceasefire, included four women and four children among the 60 honored. Government offices were closed to facilitate public attendance.
