Chad's President, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, has made a big announcement: they're immediately stopping visa services for people from the United States. This decision comes right after the US put Chad on a list of countries facing a travel ban. President Deby was clear, saying he told his government to "act in accordance with the principles of reciprocity." It's essentially a "you do it to us, we'll do it to you" kind of move.

The US travel ban, signed by President Donald Trump, didn't just affect Chad. It also hit six other African countries: the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan. The official reason given by the US was to keep Americans safe from possible terrorist threats and other security risks. Trump emphasized that the goal is to protect US citizens from anyone who might try to use immigration laws for bad reasons.

Chad's response shows they're standing firm on their national dignity. President Deby pointed out that while Chad isn't as rich as some countries, it still has its pride. He said, "Chad has no planes to offer, no billions of dollars to give but Chad has its dignity and pride." This statement truly highlights Chad's strong stance and its refusal to just accept policies it sees as unfair.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time such concerns have been raised. The African Union Commission had already voiced worries about the US travel restrictions on African nations. They warned that these types of measures could hurt the long-standing friendly ties between the US and Africa.

The African Union had also called for a more balanced way for the US to make these decisions. They asked the United States to base its choices on real evidence and to remember the strong partnership they've built over many years. This suggests a desire for mutual respect in how countries deal with each other.

So, Chad's move to suspend US visas is a clear message. It shows that even smaller nations expect fair treatment and are willing to take action when they feel they're being unjustly targeted by powerful countries.
