Saudi Arabia on Sunday welcomed the announcement of an immediate ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following days of intense border clashes. The truce, reached in Doha, marked a significant step toward reducing tensions between the two neighboring nations, which have experienced their worst violence since the Taliban's takeover of Kabul in 2021.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Kingdom's unwavering support for initiatives that strengthen peace and stability in the region. It emphasized that Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at ensuring long-term security and prosperity for both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Kingdom further expressed its hope that the ceasefire would pave the way for a permanent resolution to the border tensions. Riyadh stressed that peace between the two nations is vital not only for their peoples but also for the broader stability of South Asia, given the strategic importance of both countries.

The peace talks were facilitated in Doha by Qatar, which confirmed that both sides agreed to an immediate halt to hostilities. According to Qatar's foreign ministry, the parties also discussed mechanisms to strengthen and consolidate lasting peace and stability, ensuring the ceasefire holds beyond the initial agreement.

Follow-up meetings have been scheduled in the coming days to monitor compliance and to build on the progress made. The two nations are expected to explore frameworks for cooperation that will prevent future clashes and address the root causes of their disputes, particularly concerning their contested border regions.

The international community, including Saudi Arabia, views this truce as a crucial step forward. By endorsing the ceasefire, the Kingdom has once again highlighted its role as a supporter of peace and stability, hoping this agreement will usher in a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
