Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the recent incursions into Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli officials and settlers. The ministry described the incidents as taking place "under the protection of the occupation forces," emphasizing that these actions violate the sanctity of one of Islam's most revered sites. The Kingdom reiterated its firm stance against any assaults on the mosque, highlighting the importance of preserving its religious and historical significance.

In its statement, the ministry expressed "categorical rejection" of actions undermining the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its sacred sites. Saudi Arabia called on the international community to hold Israeli authorities accountable for violations against Islamic holy sites and the harm inflicted upon innocent Palestinian civilians. The statement framed the recent events as part of a recurring pattern of disrespect and aggression towards religious landmarks in the region.

Al-Aqsa Mosque, located in Jerusalem's Old City, has long been a flashpoint for regional tensions. Violations or provocations at the site frequently trigger broader unrest across the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's declaration joins growing diplomatic voices from Arab and Islamic capitals urging respect for the mosque's status and caution to prevent further escalation of violence.

The recent episode followed a visit by Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who posted a video asserting Israel's dominance at the site, referencing the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023. He further urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to achieve "complete victory" in Gaza, including the destruction of Hamas, while ongoing Egypt-mediated talks aim to end hostilities.

Ben-Gvir, who leads the nationalist-religious Jewish Power party, has a history of challenging the longstanding "status quo" of the Al-Aqsa compound. Currently, the site is administered by a Jordanian religious endowment, allowing Muslims to worship while Jewish visitors may enter but not pray. Any attempts to alter this arrangement have historically provoked strong reactions across the Muslim world.

Saudi Arabia's latest statement underscores the Kingdom's continued commitment to protecting Islamic holy sites and preserving Jerusalem's sanctity. By calling for international accountability, Riyadh emphasizes the necessity of coordinated diplomatic efforts to prevent further provocations that could destabilize the region and inflame religious tensions.
