A wave of grief and anger swept through Yantodo village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State as five Muslim worshippers brutally murdered during Fajr (dawn) prayers were laid to rest. The victims, respected members of their community, were shot dead by heavily armed bandits who stormed the mosque before sunrise, leaving behind a scene of chaos, bloodshed, and heartbreak.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, carrying sophisticated assault rifles, invaded the mosque around 5:00 a.m., opening fire without warning on the unsuspecting congregation. Several worshippers sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to flee, but five lost their lives instantly, transforming a sacred moment of worship into a tragedy. Survivors described the attack as one of the most terrifying assaults on their community in recent memory.

At the emotionally charged burial ceremony on Friday afternoon, mourners spoke of the victims as devout and peaceful Muslims, known for their unwavering dedication to daily prayers. However, grief quickly gave way to anger as families and sympathizers accused government authorities of gross negligence and failure to protect innocent lives from recurring terror attacks.

Many mourners denounced ongoing "peace deals" with bandits as a dangerous deception, claiming such agreements embolden criminals rather than deter them. They further alleged that some officials may be benefiting from these deals, prioritizing personal interests over public safety, and called for a decisive military crackdown instead of hollow negotiations.

This tragedy underscores a disturbing trend of rising violence targeting places of worship across northern Nigeria. In a similarly devastating incident in August, more than 50 worshippers were massacred during prayers at a mosque in Katsina State, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security measures.

Community leaders have renewed calls for urgent government intervention, enhanced security presence, and justice for the slain worshippers. They insist that without firm action, such deadly assaults on sacred spaces will continue to haunt vulnerable Muslim communities.
