The fire broke out late on Saturday, October 4, while two people were inside the mosque. Fortunately, both individuals managed to escape without injuries, though the blaze caused significant damage to the mosque's front entrance and a nearby parked vehicle.

In response to the incident, Sussex Police released images of two masked men dressed in dark clothing, believed to be connected to the attack. They have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects. Detective Inspector Gavin Patch condemned the incident as an "appalling and reckless attack," emphasizing that it is being treated as "arson with intent to endanger life." The incident follows closely on the heels of a deadly assault on a synagogue in Manchester, raising concerns about a surge in hate-motivated violence.

A spokesperson for the Peacehaven mosque expressed deep gratitude that no lives were lost and urged the public to respond to hatred with unity and compassion. "This hateful act does not represent our community or our town," the spokesperson said, calling on residents to stand together against division.
