The Sokoto State Government has launched a new welfare program to support religious leaders across the state. Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the introduction of monthly allowances for Imams, their deputies, and Mu'azzins, ensuring that these key figures in Islamic propagation are better supported in their duties.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony of 111 Qur'an memorisers from the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation in Sokoto, the governor explained that the initiative is part of his administration's commitment to strengthening Islamic affairs and encouraging Qur'anic memorisation among children. He emphasized that religious guidance and education remain top priorities of the government's "Nine-point Smart Agenda," second only to security.

As part of the initiative, Jumu'at Mosques across Sokoto State will now receive monthly cash allocations ranging between N300,000 and N500,000, depending on their category. Governor Aliyu noted that these funds are meant to support the upkeep of mosques and assist in sustaining their community services.

In addition, the governor directed the management of the Qur'anic school to secure land for a permanent site, pledging full state support to ensure its long-term development. This step, he said, will further enhance access to quality Islamic education in Sokoto State.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, praised the efforts of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi for establishing the foundation and commended Islamic scholars for their role in promoting peaceful coexistence. Former governor Aliyu Wamakko and Senator Abdulaziz Yari also expressed their support, with Yari donating N22 million and food items.

At the ceremony, each of the 111 Qur'an memorisers received N20,000 and clothing materials from the state government. The event concluded with Qur'anic recitations, prize presentations, and prayers for continued unity and development in Sokoto State.
