Authorities have revealed that several young people from northern Nigeria were rescued while attempting to embark on a dangerous and illegal journey in search of work abroad. Victims included three from Katsina, two from Kano, and one each from Borno, Jigawa, and Zamfara states.

The officials described the situation as very unfortunate. They stressed that the money spent on such risky trips could have been invested in starting small businesses or learning profitable skills in their home states. Instead, the victims were lured by false promises without considering the dangers involved.

Relatives and guardians of the youths have been urged to warn them against falling for such deceptive offers. The man organizing the trip was arrested at a motor park in Kano. According to reports, the group was to travel first to Lagos, then to the Benin Republic, and later to Ghana, where the agent planned to arrange visas for Saudi Arabia.

Officials further revealed that if the visa process failed in Ghana, the victims would have been moved to Sierra Leone. Even if visas to Saudi Arabia were secured, there was no guarantee of employment, leaving them exposed to exploitation and hardship abroad.

This case highlights the increasing dangers of irregular migration. Many young people are being misled by agents who profit from their desperation, offering no real assurance of safety or opportunities in foreign lands.

The arrested agent, along with the rescued victims, has been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and legal action.
