The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has vehemently rejected former Nigerian dictator General Ibrahim Babangida's claims that he was not responsible for the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. In his recently launched memoir, "A Journey In Service," Babangida shifted the blame to General Sani Abacha, his former chief of defense staff.

MURIC condemned Babangida's attempt to exonerate himself, stating that he should stop blaming others and take responsibility for his actions. The organization emphasized that Babangida's decision to annul the election, which was widely regarded as the fairest and most peaceful in Nigeria's history, was a pivotal moment in the country's descent into political chaos.

The group also criticized the launch of Babangida's book, describing it as "audacious," "outrageous," and "provocative." MURIC accused Babangida of displaying a lack of remorse for his past actions and of perpetuating a culture of impunity.
Furthermore, MURIC expressed concern that the major players involved in the annulment of the June 12 election, including Babangida and Abacha, were Muslims, and that their actions had undermined the principles of justice and accountability enshrined in Islam.

In conclusion, MURIC honored the memories of pro-democracy activists who lost their lives during the struggle for democratic rule in Nigeria, including Chief MKO Abiola, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, and Chief Alfred Rewane.
