The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has strongly criticized the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for allegedly amplifying false claims submitted to the U.S. Congress about religious killings in Nigeria. According to MURIC, certain Christian leaders had sent petitions portraying Christians as the only victims of terrorism in the country, a claim the organization described as "frivolous and misleading." Instead of clarifying the situation, MURIC stated that CAN worsened the narrative by giving it more publicity rather than promoting unity and truth.

MURIC expressed deep disappointment in CAN's position, asserting that a national body of its stature should demonstrate better understanding and responsibility. The organization emphasized that such actions do not align with the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, according to MURIC, has shown significant goodwill toward Christians through his political appointments and policy inclusiveness.

In its statement, MURIC argued that CAN's alleged behavior amounted to ingratitude, especially considering the president's record of fairness. The group claimed that President Tinubu has consistently favored Christians in government appointments and opportunities. They stated that 62% of federal appointments went to Christians, a gesture the organization described as an extraordinary act of generosity and religious tolerance.

MURIC also noted that the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, had extended further kindness toward the Christian community through various initiatives. Despite these gestures, the group lamented that some Christian leaders still found it appropriate to take grievances to international platforms, thereby, in their words, embarrassing the nation.

Describing CAN's actions as "a stab in the back," MURIC said President Tinubu did not deserve such treatment after his inclusive approach to governance. The group labeled the petitions sent abroad as "the mother of all betrayals" and called for stronger national unity.

In conclusion, MURIC maintained that while the U.S. may act based on its own foreign policy agenda, the real damage comes from Nigerians who feed foreign bodies with misleading or divisive information. The organization urged all religious groups to act responsibly in defending Nigeria's image and promoting peace among citizens.
