In a significant escalation of its ongoing military campaign, the Israeli army has closed two of Gaza City's main roads, effectively dividing the northern and southern parts of the territory. This strategic move is seen as part of Tel Aviv's broader plan to tighten its grip and potentially achieve full occupation of the city, which has been a key objective since the start of the conflict.

Military spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced on social media platform X that the Netzarim Axis, a critical route connecting the south to northern Gaza, has been sealed off. He explained that the decision was made to "gain operational control over the Netzarim Corridor," a strategically significant area that gives Israeli forces greater maneuverability and control within the besieged enclave.

In addition to the Netzarim Axis, Israeli forces have also blocked Al Rasheed Street, a crucial coastal highway that serves as one of the few remaining links between northern and southern Gaza. The closure of this road further restricts civilian movement, cutting off essential supply routes and complicating humanitarian aid deliveries to some of the most affected areas.

According to Adraee, those still residing in Gaza City will be permitted to move southward without being subjected to searches. However, rights groups warn that such assurances may not guarantee safe passage, especially given the unpredictability of ongoing airstrikes and ground operations.

The road closures underscore Israel's strategic shift toward consolidating territorial control in Gaza. By dividing the strip into isolated zones, military analysts say Israel aims to weaken resistance, limit Hamas mobility, and pave the way for deeper incursions.

This latest development adds to growing humanitarian concerns, as hundreds of thousands of civilians in northern Gaza face dwindling supplies, limited access to medical care, and an uncertain future amid intensifying conflict.
