Israel has announced the demolition of homes belonging to families of two Palestinian attackers who carried out a deadly shooting at a Jerusalem bus stop. The incident left six people dead and sparked new tensions in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The attackers came from the villages of Qatanna and Qubeiba, located north of Jerusalem. According to Israeli authorities, both men opened fire on Monday near the city's outskirts, targeting civilians waiting at the bus station. Security forces later neutralized the gunmen.

In response, Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that homes linked to the attackers would be demolished. He further stated that sanctions would apply to relatives and residents of the two villages. This included revoking the work permits of around 750 people.

Work permits are considered vital for many Palestinian families, as they provide access to better jobs inside Israel. The decision to strip hundreds of villagers of this lifeline is expected to worsen economic hardship in the region.

Israel defends the practice of demolishing homes of attackers' relatives, arguing it acts as a deterrent to future violence. Officials claim the threat of losing family homes discourages potential assaults against Israeli civilians.

However, Palestinians and international human rights groups strongly oppose this policy. They argue that demolishing homes punishes innocent family members who were not involved in attacks. Critics describe the move as collective punishment, something banned under international law, and say it deepens resentment rather than stopping violence.
