At least 64 people were killed and almost 300 others injured in the last 24 hours as Israel intensified air and ground attacks on Gaza City, according to the health ministry in Gaza. Planes and tanks struck several districts, leaving residents in constant fear and destruction across the city.

The health ministry said the total death toll since Israel's campaign began has now reached over 62,600 people, with more than 157,000 injured. Residents described continuous explosions in northern and eastern Gaza as Israeli tanks targeted Sabra and warplanes hit Zeitoun and Shejayia.

Israeli forces also returned to the Jabalia refugee camp, demolishing buildings and clearing areas to prevent Hamas from regaining control. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that its new operations were designed to expand the fighting and block Hamas fighters from returning.

The war started after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to defeat Hamas completely, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire. Around 60,000 reservists have been called to join the offensive.

International mediators have suggested a 60-day truce that would include the release of hostages. Hamas has reportedly agreed, but Israel insists on a full release of all captives before any deal. Families of hostages continue to pressure the Israeli government to end the war.

The United Nations and aid groups warn of famine and collapsing health services in Gaza. More than 90% of homes are destroyed, and only 18 hospitals are still partly working, leaving civilians in a worsening humanitarian crisis.
