Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a stern warning to the United States on Monday, vowing a strong response if President Donald Trump's threat to bomb Iran is carried out. This warning was in direct response to Trump's statement, which threatened Iran with bombings unless a new nuclear deal is agreed upon with Washington.

In a separate move, Iran issued a warning to Switzerland's embassy on Monday, March 31, regarding Trump's threats. Switzerland's embassy represents US interests in Tehran and serves as an intermediary between Washington and Tehran. According to state media, Tehran expressed its determination to respond "decisively and immediately" to any threat.
Khamenei emphasized that the enmity between the US, Israel, and Iran is longstanding. While he doubts the likelihood of an attack, he made it clear that any aggressive action would be met with a strong reciprocal blow. Furthermore, Khamenei warned that if the US attempts to cause internal unrest, the Iranian people will take matters into their own hands.

Iranian authorities have consistently blamed the West for the country's recent unrest. This includes the 2022-2023 protests sparked by Mahsa Amini's death in custody for allegedly violating hijab rules, as well as the 2019 nationwide protests over fuel price hikes.
The tension between Iran and the US has been further complicated by Iran's refusal to engage in direct negotiations with Washington. However, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Sunday that Tehran is willing to continue indirect talks, in line with Khamenei's instructions.

Khamenei's warning and Iran's refusal to negotiate directly with the US have significant implications for the region. The situation remains volatile, with the potential for escalation if diplomatic efforts fail.
