A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck northern Iran on Friday, as reported by the US Geological Survey, while Israel simultaneously conducted air strikes on the country. Iran's Tasnim news agency measured the quake at 5.2.

The earthquake originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (six miles), approximately 37 kilometers (23 miles) southwest of the city of Semnan. This location is notably close to Iran's Fordow nuclear enrichment facility in Qom Province, raising concerns.

Tremors from the seismic event were reportedly felt as far as Tehran**, Iran's capital, which is situated about 145 miles west of Semnan, the earthquake's epicenter. Despite the widespread sensation, the shaking was considered light, with no immediate reports of damage.

Intriguingly, the earthquake coincided with an Israeli missile strike in Iran's southwest. Local and regional media outlets confirmed these strikes, which reportedly targeted an Iranian air defense site named Magar in the Behmai province.

Israeli outlet ynetnews.com detailed that these strikes might have disabled three surface-to-surface missile launchers that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed were "prepared to fire a barrage of missiles toward Israel."

Furthermore, the IDF asserted that a "cell" of Iranian commanders and soldiers was "eliminated." This included an IRGC base commander in western Iran, responsible for 15 missile launchers, who was identified en route to carry out a launch.
