Iran has officially formed a new National Defence Council, according to state reports, following its short but intense conflict with Israel in June. This new body aims to strengthen Iran's military and prevent future surprises.

The new council was approved by Iran's top security authority, the Supreme National Security Council. It is expected to centralise all military planning and help improve the readiness and power of the Iranian armed forces.

Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, will head the National Defence Council. Other members include top leaders from all three branches of government, high-ranking military commanders, and ministers in charge of national security matters.

According to a statement released by the council's secretariat, this decision reflects the need for faster and stronger military coordination, especially after the June confrontation with Israel, which was one of Iran's most serious military challenges since the 1980s war with Iraq.

On Sunday, Iran's commander-in-chief, Amir Hatami, said Israel continues to be a real threat to the country. He warned the public and military not to underestimate the danger coming from the Israeli government.

The brief conflict began on June 13 when Israel launched what Iran called an unprovoked military strike. Iran quickly retaliated, and after several days of fighting, the United States brokered a ceasefire which has held since June 24. Iran's new council is seen as a major step toward long-term military preparedness and defence strategy.
