The annual replacement of the Holy Kaaba's Kiswa, a tradition upheld for over a century, commenced Wednesday. This revered ceremony involves meticulously changing the black silk embroidered cloth that adorns the sacred structure in Makkah.

The process began with the careful removal of the Kaaba door's gilded curtain, a significant piece measuring 6.35 meters in length and 3.33 meters in width. The new Kiswa is now being transported to the Grand Mosque with extensive logistical support, ensuring a smooth transition.

A dedicated team of 154 highly trained Saudi craftsmen oversees every aspect of the replacement. Their precise duties include expertly raising the old Kiswa, detaching its gilded embellishments, and then flawlessly installing the new, magnificent covering.

This new Kiswa is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship, featuring 47 intricately embroidered black silk panels. Adorning these panels are 68 Quranic verses, all meticulously stitched using 24-karat gold-plated silver threads. The entire Kiswa weighs approximately 1,415 kilograms.

Its creation involved vast quantities of precious materials: 120 kilograms of gold-plated silver thread, 60 kilograms of pure silver, 825 kilograms of silk, and 410 kilograms of raw cotton. Furthermore, 54 gilded pieces were produced using eight specialized weaving machines at the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa.

This yearly replacement underscores the profound reverence and diligent care given to the Holy Kaaba. It's a continuous tradition that not only honors Islam's holiest site but also showcases exceptional dedication and artistry.
