Efforts to broker peace in Gaza have hit a major setback as mediators reveal that Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas's military wing, has firmly rejected the latest US-backed ceasefire proposal. Despite weeks of negotiations and mounting international pressure, al-Haddad believes the plan poses an existential threat to Hamas's survival and is therefore determined to continue armed resistance.

According to sources close to the talks, al-Haddad views the proposal not as a step toward peace, but as a strategic move to dismantle Hamas's power. He argues that whether the group accepts or rejects the plan, its ultimate goal is to neutralize Hamas's influence in Gaza and remove it from the political landscape. This stance reflects the hardline military leadership's unwavering commitment to resistance, regardless of diplomatic pressures.

The ceasefire proposal, put forward by US President Donald Trump, outlines a 20-point framework aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
