A key point of contention was the buffer zone size. While Hamas agreed to roughly one kilometer, Israel demanded control over three kilometers.

Despite these significant disagreements, mediators remain engaged. They are working hard to bridge the gaps between the two sides' demands.

Diplomatic sources indicate mediators are attempting to balance Hamas's position with resistance from hawkish elements within the Israeli government.

The new map is critical. Its submission could determine if negotiations can progress and whether a truce is possible.
