Following the 2021 political shift in Afghanistan, a massive influx of returning refugees necessitates comprehensive resettlement strategies.

The return of over a million Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran in 2023 and 2024 created a significant humanitarian crisis.  This mass repatriation presented immense challenges for the Afghan government.

In response, the Islamic Emirate established the High Commission for the Resolution of Refugee Issues, tasked with managing the crisis and coordinating aid.  This commission oversees twelve specialized subcommittees addressing various needs.

The commission's key initiative is the development of 35 refugee townships across 25 provinces.  These townships offer housing, schools, healthcare, and infrastructure to support sustainable integration.

This ambitious project requires sustained domestic and international support to ensure the successful resettlement and integration of returning refugees and contribute to Afghanistan's overall development.
