Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, kicked off Ramadan with a generous gesture, distributing food items to disadvantaged Muslim community members across the FCT's six Area Councils.
This initiative is part of the FCT Administration's tradition of providing welfare support during festive periods.
Representing the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi emphasized Ramadan's significance as a period of fasting, prayer, and charity. The FCT Administration allocated over 10,000 bags of rice to demonstrate solidarity with the Muslim community, including religious associations and welfare groups.
The Minister urged recipients, including mosques and welfare associations, to ensure fair distribution to those most in need. He also encouraged corporate and non-governmental organizations to follow suit and support the needy during Ramadan.
The Imam of the Mosque at the Minister's official residence, Imam Lawal Mustapha, expressed gratitude to Barr. Wike for his compassion and concern for the less privileged. Alhaji Abdulrazaq Ademola, Principal of the Abuja School for the Deaf, also thanked the Minister, highlighting the significant relief the food items would bring to vulnerable community members, especially those with special needs.
Beneficiaries of the food items included the 17 graded chiefs in the FCT, over 70 mosques, and 49 welfare associations.
